How to Prevent Rust on Idle Metallurgical Cranes?
We all know that rust prevention is crucial for equipment that has been idle for extended periods. For lifting equipment like metallurgical cranes and gantry cranes, how should rust prevention be carried out when they are left unused for long durations?
1. First, when preparing for shutdown maintenance, thoroughly inspect the entire equipment surface. Ensure all areas are covered with an intact paint film.
2. If inspection reveals damaged paint film on metal structures, thoroughly clean these areas and apply rust-proof paint or other protective coatings. This safeguards the metal surface from weather-induced corrosion during rainy or snowy conditions.
3. During rust prevention, do not overlook the crane's moving parts—this is crucial. For these components, apply -10 or -20 grade diesel fuel. This not only removes substances prone to causing equipment corrosion but also forms an oil film on the metal surface, providing protection against low temperatures.
4. Beyond cleaning and lubricating with diesel, apply a layer of lubricating grease. Opt for calcium-based or lithium-based grease, as these maintain mechanical performance effectively and are easier to remove when the equipment is reused.
