RTG and straddle carrier price guide: compare configuration and scope

An RTG crane price and a straddle carrier price cannot be compared as one equipment class. These author-prepared planning scenarios run from $300,000 to $7,500,000 per machine across container RTGs, container straddle carriers, industrial carriers and precast carriers. Each range uses the geometry and drive package stated in its row. None is a Henan Mine quotation, confirmed sale price or market average.

The Configuration filter groups unlike machine families; its internal keys do not create a shared capacity scale. RTG rows use container load under the spreader; container-carrier rows use a modeled loaded-container class; industrial and precast rows are scenario payload classes requiring the supplier to state attachment and rigging treatment in the final rating.

All amounts are preliminary author-modeled USD equipment-only planning allowances, not current Henan Mine prices, confirmed transactions or binding quotations. Public price references reviewed did not establish matched scope across the four equipment families, so no third-party figure is presented as a Henan Mine price or used as a validated market range. Capacity and geometry labels are scenario assumptions, not verified model specifications. Freight, taxes, civil works, site power, installation and unlisted equipment are excluded.

01 / PRICE BASIS

What these RTG and straddle carrier price ranges cover

These figures are author-modeled preliminary USD equipment-only allowances. They are not current Henan Mine quotations, confirmed sale prices or validated market ranges. Public price references reviewed did not establish one matched scope across an RTG, container straddle carrier, industrial carrier and precast carrier.

Each row is a separate planning scenario. Span, lift, portal opening, stack layout, load class, power and tool package are assumptions used to define it, not verified product specifications. The boundary is one machine with only the tool or spreader allowance named in the row.

Freight, insurance, duties, taxes, foundations, pavement, fixed power infrastructure, erection, commissioning, terminal integration and unlisted tools or spares are excluded. A written offer must state the exact machine, rating basis and scope.

02 / MACHINE FAMILIES

RTGs and straddle carriers serve different yard movements

A container RTG is a rubber-tired gantry spanning a storage block and truck lane. It stacks and retrieves containers across the block; the scenario rating is stated as container load under the spreader. The tool and rigging still contribute to total suspended mass, so the supplier must state the rating convention.

A container straddle carrier lifts a container and travels with it through the yard. Its loaded lane, turns, braking, pavement, transfer interfaces and stack tiers shape the machine. A matching 40 t label does not make it a 40 t RTG substitute: one spans a block while the other carries a suspended box along a route.

An industrial straddle carrier is modeled for beams, pipes or modules with a load-specific beam, hooks or clamps. A precast carrier is modeled for concrete beams or segments and depends on approved element strength, lifting points, attachment geometry and yard travel. Neither family has one universal portal or capacity specification.

RMGs and fixed-runway cranes are outside this guide. No RTG row should be treated as a rail-mounted crane price.

03 / CONFIGURATION

How capacity, geometry and drive change the budget

  • Load basis: distinguish container mass under an RTG spreader from a container-carrier rating and from industrial or precast payload scenarios. Apply tool and rigging mass using the selected supplier rating convention.
  • Span and lift: a wider RTG block, taller stack, high-cube clearance or greater lift changes modeled gantry and hoisting scope. Row values are assumptions, not standard specifications.
  • Portal and route: clear width and height, loaded turning, braking, travel distance, grades, trailer interfaces and tire/axle reactions shape mobile carriers.
  • Power and drive: diesel, hybrid and cable-electric cases have different packages. Storage, cable collection, charging or fixed distribution must be specified rather than assumed.
  • Tooling and controls: spreaders, twistlocks, lifting beams, clamps, monitoring, remote or automatic controls and terminal systems change scope.
  • Duty and destination: moves per hour, shifts, environment, inspection, packing and destination requirements affect the final engineered offer.

The table separates these cases; it does not assign a fixed premium to any option.

04 / PROJECT BOUNDARY

Keep machine allowance separate from site cost

The amounts cover one machine and the tool allowance named in its row. Have the quote identify the machine, spreader or beam, twistlocks or connections, drive package, steering, braking and controls as included or excluded lines.

Site power is not the same as the machine power package. A cable-electric RTG allowance excludes the yard cable route, substation and distribution work. A hybrid label does not specify storage, fuel use or charging performance; those require a selected architecture and duty case.

Freight, cargo insurance, duties, taxes, civil work, pavement reinforcement, erection, commissioning, training, terminal-system integration, initial spares and destination documents are outside these equipment-only estimates unless a written offer adds them.

05 / COMPARISON

Compare equal tasks, not just equal tonne labels

For a container-yard screen, compare the 40 t diesel RTG scenario with the 40 t diesel straddle-carrier scenario only after defining the same maximum gross container, spreader treatment and terminal task. The RTG assumes six container rows plus a truck lane, a six-high stack and about 23 m span. The carrier assumes travel with the load and a two-high stack in its modeled portal. Their motion, layout and equipment boundary differ; no throughput, labor-saving or lifecycle claim is implied.

For industrial or precast equipment, compare the complete load, center of gravity, lifting beam or fixture, pickup height, route and clear opening. A 100 t precast load with its tool is not automatically the same rating as a 100 t industrial module.

If site geometry or drive falls outside a modeled case, use the number only as a screening reference. Request a separately engineered scope instead of extrapolating from the nearest row.

06 / NEXT STEP

Use the range as a first budget screen

Start with the movement the machine must complete: maximum load and tool, pickup and placement elevations, block or portal geometry, the full loaded route, operating cycle and available power. For precast, confirm release strength and approved anchors. For container equipment, define box formats, spreader mode, stack tiers and every truck or rail interface.

Review the matching container RTG, container straddle carrier, industrial straddle carrier or precast carrier page, then request a configuration-specific written quotation. The quote—not this table—must confirm rating, geometry, inclusions and delivery boundary.

RTG Cranes & Straddle Carriers price questions

Compare the same lifting task, equipment scope and site responsibilities.

Are these current Henan Mine prices?

No. They are authored preliminary USD planning estimates for the scenario labels shown. They are not current supplier quotations, confirmed sales or binding offers; a written quote must confirm configuration and scope.

What does RTG capacity mean here?

The RTG scenario label refers to container load under the spreader. The spreader and rigging contribute to complete suspended mass, and the selected supplier must state the rated-load convention.

Does a 40 t RTG cost the same as a 40 t straddle carrier?

No. An RTG spans a storage block and truck lane, while a straddle carrier transports a suspended container along a loaded route. Geometry, drive, tool and site requirements differ.

Do the carrier payload labels include the lifting beam or spreader?

The table is a planning model, not a nameplate rating. The offer must define gross load, tool and rigging treatment, and the conditions permitted for lifting and travel.

Does the electric or hybrid range include yard power infrastructure?

No. The estimate includes only the named machine-side interface or hybrid-package allowance. Yard distribution, substation, cable route, charging facilities and civil work are excluded.

Can I use a precast carrier estimate for a bridge beam of the same weight?

Only as a broad screening scenario. Element dimensions, center of gravity, approved strength and anchors, lifting points, beam geometry, clearance and route reactions must fit the selected machine design.
