Choose bucket size after density
Compare the material mass at maximum fill with grab self-weight and crane rating; select shell and teeth for abrasiveness and lump size.
- Bulk density and moisture
- Lump size and wear
- Total loaded mass
An electric or motor-driven clamshell closes under powered control instead of relying only on a separate closing-rope drum. The selected grab must still fit the crane's lifting interface and electrical system. Specify the handled material, duty, available power, cable route and outdoor exposure together, then confirm the bucket's own mass and cargo load.

Send material density and maximum lump size, crane rating, power supply, cable travel, pickup and discharge drawings and the number of cycles per hour.
The selected attachment's minimum order and supply scope are confirmed in the written offer.
Review the loaded attachment, connection, operating cycle and site clearances before approval.
Agree inspection, documents, packing, schedule, site support and warranty before order placement.
U5D and ZD20 are different arrangements. The final unit needs a drawing that identifies its motor, rope and cable interfaces; figures from separate rows do not describe one grab.

| Model | Crane rating | Bucket volume | Material density | Listed material per grab | Power / rope |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| U5D motor grab | 3 t | 0.5 m³ | 2.4 t/m³ | 1.2 t | Ø11 mm rope; 19 s close |
| ZD20 electric grab | 10 t | 2 m³ | ≤2 t/m³ | 4 t | 18.5 kW; Ø15 mm rope |
Listed material mass excludes grab self-weight. The ZD20 example uses one supporting and one closing rope. Approve the selected configuration's electrical diagram, mass and outdoor protection before ordering.
| Model | Rope / sheave arrangement | Outline dimensions |
|---|---|---|
| U5D | Ratio 4; Ø250 mm sheave | H 2,280 / D 1,970 mm |
| ZD20 | 1 support + 1 closing rope; ratio 5; Ø350 mm sheave | H 3,870 / D 3,000 mm |
H and D are outline labels. Use the approved unit drawing for installation clearances, opening width and building work.
No. Standard electric and motor grab designs are not specified for underwater operation. Submerged work, explosive atmospheres or corrosive vapours require a dedicated engineering review and a suitable selected product.
Review the configuration
A small volume may still carry a substantial mass when material density is high. Check loaded grab weight, cutting edge and hopper geometry.
Powered closing can be coordinated with a repeatable crane cycle when the cable feed, controls and discharge method are designed together.
Review the existing crane's safe load, hook or rope system, cable management and electrical protection before specifying a replacement bucket.
The motor, cables and controls add equipment interfaces. State the full installation route and any rain, dust or corrosive exposure before choosing a powered attachment. Compare the matching crane system.
Choose bucket volume from the cargo's density and filling behaviour, then match the motor, electrical supply, cable route and crane controls to the required handling cycle. Confirm the loaded mass and open dimensions on one selected-unit drawing.
Equipment price, crane modifications and site services should be separated so your team knows what is supplied and what remains to be done locally.
List shell, drive motor, gearbox or mechanism, rope head, protective components and actual attachment self-weight.
Show cable feed, control panel, interlocks and connection to the crane's power and controls.
Agree functional tests, inspection documents, packing, spare parts, delivery and site assistance.
The offer should connect your load data to one drawing, one equipment schedule and a clear inspection and handover plan. Production and freight dates are confirmed for that selected configuration.
List the destination standards and customer witness points before finalising the acceptance plan.
Confirm load, crane interface, environment, operating sequence and buyer requirements.
Approve dimensions, self-weight, selected components, controls and site responsibilities.
Complete the agreed functional and load-case checks, records and packing.
Coordinate transport, unloading, installation checks, operator instruction and handover.
Single-unit enquiries are welcome. The written offer confirms the selected design's minimum order and exactly what is supplied.
State applicable market and customer requirements. The offer lists the documents, inspections and tests available for the selected unit.
Drawing approval, production, inspection and shipping are separate milestones. A dated delivery programme follows the selected configuration.
Agree the warranty period and start date, covered components, replacement parts, installation guidance and any on-site service in the signed offer.
Ask for support termsAssign who supplies power, rope, hook connection, controls, rigging and commissioning equipment.
Agree inspection and functional checks around the material and lift the attachment was selected for.
Record the final model, serial number and wear parts so replacement components fit the supplied configuration.
Use these answers to prepare one technical and commercial brief for the selected unit.
Discuss this attachmentNo. They are separate configurations. ZD20 lists an 18.5 kW power value; do not transfer it to U5D or another bucket.
No. Its example lists 4 t of material. The selected grab's self-weight must be added before checking the crane's capacity.
Possibly, after verifying load rating, lifting connection, cable route, power, controls and clearances. A hook alone does not settle compatibility.
Outdoor exposure must be specified. The selected equipment needs suitable electrical protection and cable management before use.
The approved bucket and drive, crane interface, power and controls, documents, test scope, schedule, warranty and after-sales terms.
Send material density and maximum lump size, crane rating, power supply, cable travel, pickup and discharge drawings and the number of cycles per hour. The selected drawing and commercial offer can then identify the attachment, crane interface, documents, delivery and support.
