Gantry crane price table by capacity and model
For preliminary planning, 5–20 t MH single-girder gantry crane equipment is estimated at USD $8,000–$48,000. General-purpose 10–50 t MG double-girder hook gantries are estimated at USD $25,000–$160,000. Span, hook height, duty, outdoor conditions and the supply scope determine the project-specific quotation.
Compare 18 planning configurations across six product arrangements. Filter by capacity or design. All capacities use metric tonnes (1 t = 1,000 kg); span and hook travel are budgeting assumptions, not a confirmed technical schedule.
Preliminary planning estimates in USD, not current stock prices or binding quotations. Equipment supply only under the stated assumptions. Actual offers may fall outside these ranges. Rails, foundations, freight, taxes and installation are excluded.

What do these gantry crane prices include?
These planning ranges cover one general-purpose, electrically operated gantry crane: main girder or girders, supporting legs, travelling end carriages, electric hoist or winch mechanism, cross travel, long-travel drives, on-crane wiring and basic pendant control. The MGB semi-gantry has a ground-running leg arrangement on one side and an elevated runway connection on the other.
Use 12–24 m span for MH, MHL, MHH and MGB or 18–30 m span for MDG and MG, with 6–12 m hook travel. These are budgeting assumptions within the general scale of the ranges, not a schedule of approved capacity/span/height combinations. Each project's duty, geometry and operating environment still require selection.
Equipment allowance
- Girders, legs and travelling assemblies
- Selected electric hoist or winch mechanism
- Crane and cross-travel drives
- On-crane electrical equipment and basic pendant operation
Separate project costs
- Ground rails, foundations, drainage and civil work
- Elevated runway steelwork for semi-gantries
- Runway power feed, packing, freight, duties and taxes
- Erection, commissioning, testing and local approvals
The ranges assume ordinary hook lifting without large cantilevers, automatic production control, a specialist lifting attachment or an auxiliary hoist. Outdoor design must suit the site: operating and parked wind conditions, corrosion protection, electrical enclosures and storm restraint are specified with the project. Do not interpret the budget as a complete storm-protection package.
Single-girder, double-girder or semi-gantry: which should you price?
MH single-girder electric-hoist gantry crane
Cost-focused handling for machinery, fabricated parts and stored materials. The hoist travels along one main girder, while the legs carry the crane on ground rails. Compare MH first when general hook lifting, the available hook height and the required operating cycle suit an electric-hoist arrangement.
MHL L-type electric-hoist gantry crane
L-shaped leg geometry for loads that need passage beside the supports. Compare the clear opening with the load and vehicle envelope before paying for the arrangement. The useful opening depends on the drawing; the model name alone does not establish a clear truck lane.
MDG L-type winch gantry crane
Single-main-girder L-type structure with a winch lifting mechanism. MDG and MHL use different lifting arrangements, so their prices should not be treated as interchangeable. Compare MDG where long-load passage and the specified winch duty justify the equipment package.
MG double-girder hook gantry crane
Two-girder lifting for fabrication, storage and production yards. Compare MG when load, span, trolley arrangement or hook geometry favours a double-girder design. Girder count does not establish the crane's working class; the mechanisms and structure must match the load spectrum and work cycle.
MGB double-girder hook semi-gantry crane
Wall-side coverage using one elevated runway and one ground runway. It can use less freestanding leg structure, but it depends on a suitable elevated support. Include structural checks, runway supply and building alterations before assuming that semi-gantry construction reduces the total project cost.
MHH electric-hoist truss gantry crane
Electric-hoist lifting with a truss main girder for outdoor handling. Compare fabrication, transport, access for inspection and the required operating environment. An open truss does not remove wind loading or the need for a designed parked condition.
10 ton gantry crane prices: compare the configuration
For a 10 t crane with an 18 m span and 9 m hook travel, the following estimated equipment bands provide a starting comparison. This is an illustrative planning scenario, not a completed customer project or a confirmed equipment quotation. The duty and final layout remain to be selected.
| 10 t configuration | Estimated equipment budget | Purchase decision |
|---|---|---|
| MH electric-hoist single girder | USD $14,000–$28,000 | General lifting where hook coverage and hoist duty fit. |
| MHL L-type electric hoist | USD $16,000–$32,000 | Check whether the L-leg opening solves a real load-passage restriction. |
| MDG L-type winch | USD $24,000–$45,000 | Compare the winch arrangement and long-load handling geometry. |
| MG double-girder hook | USD $25,000–$50,000 | Check trolley layout, useful hook height and production duty. |
| MGB double-girder semi-gantry | USD $22,000–$45,000 | Price the elevated runway and its supporting structure separately. |
| MHH electric-hoist truss | USD $15,000–$30,000 | Compare the truss package and outdoor design on the same basis. |
The ranges overlap because geometry, components and duty matter as well as the structural label. Compare the complete technical schedules and exclusions. Subtracting the lowest endpoints does not show a guaranteed saving.
What changes the cost of a gantry crane?
Span, clear opening and cantilever reach
Span is the horizontal distance between runway-rail centre lines. It is different from the overall girder length, the clear opening between legs and the usable hook coverage. Cantilevers extend coverage beyond a runway, changing structure and support reactions. Confirm the permitted load and usable hook reach on each cantilever from the project drawing and any applicable load chart.
Hook height and the complete suspended load
Required hook height depends on the load, lifting tackle, transport vehicle and stacking level. Overall crane height is a different dimension. Taller arrangements change the leg and bracing design. Include slings, lifting beams and other below-hook equipment when establishing the total suspended load, rather than sizing the crane from the product mass alone.
Work cycle, speeds and positioning
Occasional loading and repeated production transfers require different component selections. Lifts per shift, load spectrum, travel distances and operating hours affect the duty. Variable-speed drives, fine positioning, coordinated hoists and automation can change both equipment and commissioning scope. There is no reliable universal upgrade percentage.
Wind, climate and the parked condition
Outdoor service needs defined operating and out-of-service wind conditions, suitable electrical protection and corrosion treatment. Storm restraints, anchoring points and any wind monitoring must work with the site infrastructure. A coastal yard, a freezing site and a sheltered inland workshop should not receive an identical environmental allowance.
Runway length and electrical supply
Long travel increases the quantities of rails, civil work and power-feed equipment. A cable reel, festoon or conductor system has different layout and access implications. Confirm the travel length and supply boundary separately from the crane span. Existing concrete is not proof that the ground can carry the proposed wheel loads.
Shipping dimensions and site access
Girder lengths, leg assemblies and connection details determine packing and transport options. Container shipment must be checked against actual package dimensions; it cannot be promised from capacity alone. Sectional manufacture can change transport and field assembly work. Site access and the erection lifting plan also affect the project budget.
Portable, U-type, container and shipbuilding gantry crane budgets
These configurations solve different handling problems. Keep their estimated equipment allowances separate from the ordinary rail-mounted hook-crane table.
| Arrangement | Planning configuration | Estimated equipment budget | Key boundary |
|---|---|---|---|
| Portable steel gantry | 0.5–3 t; short 2–5 m span; manual travel; basic hoist | USD $1,500–$8,000 | Separate from powered rail gantries. Hoist, trolley, casters and loaded-travel permission require confirmation. |
| U-type double-girder gantry | 20–50 t; 18–30 m span; 6–12 m hook travel; one winch trolley | USD $45,000–$175,000 | Concept allowance for general hook duty without block turning or automation. Leg opening and hook coverage require a project layout. |
| Rail-mounted container gantry | 30–50 t under spreader; conventional container-yard handling | USD $250,000–$600,000 | Concept allowance for equipment with a spreader; rows, stack height, truck lanes and automation can move it outside this band. |
| Rubber-tyred container gantry | 35–50 t under spreader; conventional container-yard layout | USD $280,000–$650,000 | Concept allowance with a spreader; power train, steering, ground bearing and terminal integration are separate design decisions. |
All figures above are preliminary equipment budget estimates, not binding quotations. Container bands have a wider uncertainty than the general-purpose table. Terminal infrastructure, freight, taxes, erection and site commissioning are excluded. Remote operation, automated stacking and unusual spans need a fresh budget.
Ordinary rail-mounted gantry vs. container RMG
Running on rails does not make an MH or MG yard crane a container-handling RMG. Container cranes need an appropriate spreader interface, lifting capacity under the spreader, stacking geometry and operating cycle. A hook-rated capacity and a spreader-rated capacity should not be compared without checking the lifting-device weight and the rating basis.
MU shipbuilding gantry crane
MU shipbuilding gantries handle ship blocks over docks or assembly areas. Dock span, lifting height above and below rail, block turning, trolley combinations and wind design define the system. Establish a project concept before assigning a price range: a general-purpose MG or a container crane is not an equivalent budget reference.
Small industrial tyre gantries and container RTGs also belong to different equipment groups. Compare the actual load envelope, travel method and supporting surface, rather than buying from the shared “rubber-tyred” description.
Gantry crane equipment price vs. total project cost
Equipment, transport and site work should be separate budget lines. Ground conditions, runway length and local erection resources can change the installed total substantially. Applying one installation percentage to every project hides these differences.
| Cost line | What to include | Why it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Crane equipment | Structure, lifting mechanism, drives, controls and agreed options. | Capacity, geometry, duty, environment and component selection. |
| Rails and civil work | Runway rails, fixings, foundations, ground improvement, drainage and anchoring foundations as designed. | Wheel reactions, ground conditions, travel length and existing infrastructure. |
| Semi-gantry elevated runway | Runway beams, brackets, columns or building alterations and structural verification. | Available supports and their ability to carry the proposed loads. |
| Electrical infrastructure | Site distribution, runway power-feed equipment, connection and earthing. | Travel length, voltage, power-feed layout and the agreed supply boundary. |
| Packing and delivery | Export packing, inland transport, ports, international freight, insurance and destination delivery as agreed. | Package dimensions, route, handling method and delivery terms. |
| Import charges | Applicable duties, taxes and customs clearance. | Destination, classification and contractual responsibilities. |
| Erection and acceptance | Installation crew, mobile crane, access equipment, supervision, commissioning, test loads and inspections. | Site access, erection method, labour rates and local acceptance requirements. |
For a new yard, price the ground work early
The crane supplier's wheel loads and restraint reactions inform the runway and foundation design. Rail alignment, settlement, drainage and truck crossings affect construction as well as operation. A crane-only purchase does not resolve these site interfaces.
For an existing runway, check compatibility before budgeting a replacement
Rail gauge and section, wheel loads, condition, alignment, end stops, power supply and anchoring interfaces need review. Reusing infrastructure may reduce new work, but repairs or reinforcement can offset the apparent saving.
Compare ownership support with the purchase price
Check access for inspection, maintainable components, spare-parts scope and the agreed service responsibilities. Budget energy from the actual work cycle and local tariff. Maintenance intervals and cost depend on use and environment; a generic ten-year saving is not a reliable purchasing guarantee.

How much does a 5 ton gantry crane cost?
For preliminary equipment planning, allow USD $8,000–$16,000 for an MH single-girder electric-hoist gantry crane, USD $10,000–$20,000 for an MHL L-type electric-hoist arrangement, or USD $9,000–$18,000 for an MHH electric-hoist truss arrangement. The main table assumes 12–24 m spans and 6–12 m hook travel. Rails, foundations, freight, taxes and installation are excluded.
What is the price of a 10 ton gantry crane?
Estimated equipment bands are USD $14,000–$28,000 for MH single girder, USD $16,000–$32,000 for MHL L-type electric hoist, and USD $25,000–$50,000 for MG double girder. These are planning estimates under the stated geometry and supply assumptions. The required duty and final technical scope determine the quotation.
How much does a 20 ton gantry crane cost?
For initial planning, a 20 t MH single-girder electric-hoist gantry has an estimated equipment allowance of USD $26,000–$48,000. An MG double-girder hook gantry is estimated at USD $40,000–$75,000. Longer spans, high lifts, large cantilevers and demanding work cycles need revised budgets.
What is the price of a 50 ton double-girder gantry crane?
For a general-purpose 50 t MG hook gantry with an assumed 18–30 m span and 6–12 m hook travel, use a preliminary equipment allowance of USD $85,000–$160,000. This excludes auxiliary hoists, specialist lifting devices, container spreaders, civil work, freight, taxes and site installation.
Is a semi-gantry crane cheaper than a full gantry?
A semi-gantry can use less freestanding leg structure, but needs an elevated runway on one side. Compare the crane, elevated runway, structural verification, ground rail and installation together. An existing wall or building is not proof that the required crane loads can be supported.
Do gantry crane prices include rails and foundations?
The planning estimates on this page exclude runway rails, foundations and civil work. Crane wheel loads, travel length, ground conditions and restraint reactions determine that scope. A supplier proposal may include some runway equipment, but the quantities, foundations and site responsibilities must be stated.
Why is a container gantry crane more expensive than an ordinary yard crane?
A container gantry has a different handling package: spreader, stacking geometry, container-duty cycle and potentially positioning or automation systems. Rubber-tyred designs also need suitable power, steering and travelling systems. Comparing only rated tonnes hides these differences.
Price the crane and the yard together.
