Pause a crane order when the seller cannot connect its quotation to a specific drawing, duty classification, inspection plan and legal contracting entity. A low price or a trading company is not proof of a problem. The decisive issue is whether the equipment and promised performance can be verified before payment.
01Six supplier red flags that affect the order
| Red flag | Evidence that resolves it | Buying consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Quotation says only capacity and span | Signed specification, general arrangement and supply boundary | Do not compare it as a complete crane package |
| Factory identity cannot be linked to the seller | Legal entity, manufacturing role and traceable production visit | Confirm who is responsible for delivery and warranty |
| Generic certificates replace product documents | Applicable conformity documents identifying the actual product and responsible party | Resolve destination requirements before manufacture |
| Duty class changes between offer and drawing | One agreed classification system and operating basis | Freeze the technical revision before deposit |
| Testing is promised without a procedure | Inspection and test plan with acceptance criteria and records | Link the relevant payment stage to agreed evidence |
| Payment beneficiary differs without explanation | Documented relationship and independently verified bank details | Hold payment until reconciled |
02Verify capability without relying on factory photographs
Ask the supplier to walk through one relevant crane: the identification plate, fabrication area, hoist package, electrical assembly and inspection records. Check that the model and serial references connect. A building full of cranes does not establish that the offered model has been manufactured or tested there.
A distributor can be a valid supplier. What matters is whether it identifies the manufacturer, controls the agreed configuration and accepts clear contractual responsibility. For similar past projects, seek references that match the lifting task and obtain permission before contacting customers.
For EU/EEA supply, a CE logo or an ISO management-system certificate does not by itself establish product conformity. Check the applicable legislation and required declaration for the machine being supplied. Requirements depend on destination, supply date and whether the delivery is complete or partly completed machinery.
03Use price differences to investigate scope
Public listings checked on 28 October 2026 provide a limited equipment reference range of USD $1,850–$3,350 per listed unit across the following 10 m span models. They are not installed project quotations.
| Seller-labelled crane | Published price, USD per unit | Common stated configuration |
|---|---|---|
| 2 ton single girder | $1,850 | 10 m span; seller labels duty M3 |
| 5 ton single girder | $2,350 | 10 m span; seller labels duty M3 |
| 10 ton single girder | $3,350 | 10 m span; seller labels duty M3 |
The listings use optional-hoist wording, so the included hoist configuration is uncertain. VAT is excluded; runway, building work, delivery, installation and commissioning are not established by these advertised prices. Classification equivalence also needs confirmation. These references are not Henan Mine offers.
A much higher quotation may include a different hoist, duty, span, runway or service package. A lower one may omit them. Request the differences in writing before treating price as evidence of poor quality or dishonesty.
04Put the verification into the purchase contract
Attach the agreed drawing revision and technical specification to the order. Define the inspection stages, functional checks, load-test arrangements, required records and who pays for a repeat test after a failure. Keep acceptance criteria measurable; “international quality” is not an acceptance test.
Identify spare-parts support, warranty exclusions, response responsibilities and the documents required for shipment. Confirm any bank-detail change through an established independent contact channel. Do not let a last-minute substitution change the hoist, controls or operating class without written review.
Review overhead crane configurations against one frozen specification so competing offers can be compared on the same scope.
05Buyer questions
Is an unusually cheap crane quotation always a red flag?
It is a reason to check scope. Compare the same capacity, span, lift, duty basis and included equipment before judging the supplier.
What should be agreed before paying a deposit?
The contracting entity, technical revision, supply boundary, inspection plan and payment milestones. Resolve discrepancies in the beneficiary details and product documents first.
