BUYING DECISION

Choose a hydraulic gantry crane for sale by its rated capacity at the required lift height, not its headline tonnage. Public sold-out used listings reviewed in October 2026 showed asking prices from USD 100,500 to USD 295,000 across different 220–500-ton systems. These are historical equipment references, not current stock or new-system quotations.

01New, used or rented: which purchase fits the work?

New equipment suits repeat work when the required lifting envelope and accessory package are known. A used system can reduce the initial equipment spend, but missing beams, track or compatible controls can change the project cost. Rental or a specialist lifting service may fit a one-off installation; obtain a project-specific offer rather than applying a purchase-price percentage.

A hydraulic system raises header beams on synchronized lifting legs. It is often considered for heavy machinery installation where overhead access is restricted. Compare its operating envelope with a hydraulic gantry system before selecting a rated capacity.

02Hydraulic gantry prices: three used-equipment references

These US reseller records were marked sold out when checked on 28 October 2026. They show advertised asking prices, not achieved sale prices or an available offer.

Advertised used system Listed equipment scope Asking price, USD
220 US tons; 2001; self-propelled Self-contained hydraulics/electronics; beam and track inclusion not stated 100,500
400 tons; 1997; propane power Two power units; lifting beams and track explicitly excluded 165,000
500 tons; 2004; electric power Lifting beams, links and runway listed 295,000

The 400- and 500-ton records do not identify the ton convention; confirm it from the original load charts before comparing either rating in metric tonnes. All three were used, sold as-is, with loading and shipping at the buyer’s expense. New-system pages reviewed were quote-only. Installation engineering, ground preparation, transport and crew costs require separate pricing.

03Check capacity through the complete lift

A four-leg headline rating does not confirm capacity at full extension. Some telescopic designs derate at later stages; other designs retain the same rated capacity through their stated height range. Review the exact chart for the machine, leg arrangement, beam span and lift sequence.

Include the load, lifting beams and rigging in the engineering assessment. The center of gravity determines reactions at individual legs; dividing the total load by four is not a substitute for that calculation.

Check the retracted height against the available setup space and the extended geometry against the final placement height. Travel or side shifting under load is permitted only within the manufacturer’s approved arrangement.

04Inspect the whole used system

Match leg serial numbers, control hardware and accessories to the manuals and load charts. Inspect cylinder rods, seals, hoses, structural members, rollers and electrical equipment. Confirm how synchronization and overload functions are verified before accepting a demonstration.

Missing documentation has a cost even when the machine moves during an unloaded test. Beams and track need their own ratings, dimensions and compatibility checks. A seller’s “runs and works” statement does not establish suitability for the intended lift.

05Compare the lifting project, not only the machine

Price the agreed equipment set separately from transport, mobilization, lifting supervision and site works. Floor or ground bearing capacity, track support and the load path require project engineering. Buying a higher-capacity system does not resolve weak ground or an unverified support arrangement.

For daily handling along a fixed route, compare a powered gantry crane with the hydraulic installation method. The correct choice follows the handling cycle and access conditions.

06Buyer questions

Does the advertised capacity apply at maximum height?

Not automatically. Check the exact stage-by-stage load chart and the individual leg reactions for the planned arrangement.

Are beams and track normally included in a used price?

Not reliably. One reviewed listing explicitly excluded both, while another included beams, links and runway. Compare the itemized equipment set.
