REMOTE OPENING / CRANE RETROFIT

Remote-Controlled Hydraulic Clamshell Grab

A remote-opening hydraulic clamshell can help an existing crane handle bulk cargo without adding a conventional closing-rope system. The remote signal, hydraulic energy source and recharge method depend on the chosen design. Confirm how the bucket closes, opens and behaves if power or communication is lost before ordering for port, yard or ship-hold work.

01
One-unit enquiries welcome

The selected attachment's minimum order and supply scope are confirmed in the written offer.

02
Crane and attachment checked together

Review the loaded attachment, connection, operating cycle and site clearances before approval.

03
Clear delivery and support scope

Agree inspection, documents, packing, schedule, site support and warranty before order placement.

01 / SPECIFICATIONS

Specify the operating sequence before a nominal bucket size.

A remote grab's capacity and self-weight depend on its chosen shell and hydraulic package. The selected-unit offer should state every value below together on one drawing and technical schedule.

No single published capacity or battery figure applies to every remote grab. Do not approve the crane by bucket volume alone: add the selected grab self-weight to its maximum cargo mass.

Can my present hook crane use a remote grab?

It may, but confirm the actual total loaded mass, hook connection, headroom, lift path and the remote opening procedure. Ask for a drawing and operating demonstration for the selected grab before assuming the retrofit works.

02 / APPLICATIONS

Where a full closing-rope retrofit is impractical.

01

Ship holds and quay hoppers

Position the opening action over the discharge area while checking operator sight lines, grab width and clearance at the hatch and hopper.

02

Existing gantry or mobile cranes

Use an existing hook where the crane rating, geometry and operating cycle are compatible with the new attachment and its energy package.

03

Bulk-yard transfer

Size the shells for cargo density and target throughput; check environmental protection and service access for repeated outdoor cycles.

A photograph of a remote grab does not establish its exact model, volume or lifting rating. Confirm those for the unit quoted against your crane and cargo. Compare the matching crane system.

03 / CONFIGURATION

Choose the attachment around the actual lift.

Select the bucket and hydraulic package around the existing crane's hook, available headroom and handling cycle. Define how the unit is charged, opened, inspected and recovered before confirming the retrofit and discharge sequence.

01 / CRANE FIT

Start with the existing hook

Obtain the crane drawing and check rating, hook dimensions, lifting height, headroom and travel limits with the loaded bucket.

  • Hook and swivel
  • Loaded mass
  • Open/closed envelope
02 / ENERGY SYSTEM

Choose a workable charging plan

State available electrical supply and cycle frequency; agree how the hydraulic unit is charged, monitored and serviced.

  • Charging method
  • Daily cycles
  • Maintenance access
03 / CONTROL AND RECOVERY

Define every opening state

Agree signal range, unintended-opening protection, power-loss behaviour and a recovery method in writing.

  • Remote range
  • Interlocks
  • Loss-of-power procedure
04 / CARGO SHELLS

Use the right shell geometry

Match shell edges, wear materials, open width and fill behaviour to the actual bulk cargo and receiving hopper.

  • Density and lump size
  • Abrasiveness
  • Hopper opening

Ask each supplier to quote the same material, crane interface, operating cycle and delivery boundary for a meaningful comparison.

04 / QUOTATION SCOPE

Compare a complete attachment package.

Equipment price, crane modifications and site services should be separated so your team knows what is supplied and what remains to be done locally.

01

Complete grab package

Identify shells, hydraulic unit, energy storage or supply, remote transmitter/receiver, lifting head and actual self-weight.

02

Crane integration

State hook connection, optional charging or cable equipment, control interface and operator responsibility.

03

Demonstration and handover

Agree the opening test, safe recovery procedure, inspection documents, export packing and service spares.

05 / ORDERING & DELIVERY

Approve the selected unit before manufacture.

The offer should connect your load data to one drawing, one equipment schedule and a clear inspection and handover plan. Production and freight dates are confirmed for that selected configuration.

Request these documents with the offer

  • Approved loaded-grab and hook-connection drawing
  • Selected grab self-weight and cargo capacity
  • Hydraulic and electrical system description
  • Remote-control and loss-of-signal procedure
  • Functional test and inspection records
  • Maintenance and spare-parts list

List the destination standards and customer witness points before finalising the acceptance plan.

  1. 01

    Application review

Confirm load, crane interface, environment, operating sequence and buyer requirements.

  2. 02

    Drawing approval

Approve dimensions, self-weight, selected components, controls and site responsibilities.

  3. 03

    Build and inspect

Complete the agreed functional and load-case checks, records and packing.

  4. 04

    Deliver and commission

Coordinate transport, unloading, installation checks, operator instruction and handover.

MINIMUM ORDER

Ask for one configured unit

Single-unit enquiries are welcome. The written offer confirms the selected design's minimum order and exactly what is supplied.

CERTIFICATION & TESTS

Specify the destination

State applicable market and customer requirements. The offer lists the documents, inspections and tests available for the selected unit.

LEAD TIME

A project schedule in writing

Drawing approval, production, inspection and shipping are separate milestones. A dated delivery programme follows the selected configuration.

WARRANTY & AFTER-SALES

Know the support terms before shipment.

Agree the warranty period and start date, covered components, replacement parts, installation guidance and any on-site service in the signed offer.

Ask for support terms
01 / INSTALLATION

Match the crane interface

Assign who supplies power, rope, hook connection, controls, rigging and commissioning equipment.

02 / ACCEPTANCE

Test the stated load case

Agree inspection and functional checks around the material and lift the attachment was selected for.

03 / SPARES

Maintain the installed unit

Record the final model, serial number and wear parts so replacement components fit the supplied configuration.

07 / BUYER QUESTIONS

Questions to settle before buying.

Use these answers to prepare one technical and commercial brief for the selected unit.

Discuss this attachment
Does remote control mean the bucket has no power requirement?

No. The remote command and hydraulic closing action need a defined energy source or charging arrangement. Confirm the package for the selected model.

Will it fit any 10 t crane?

No. Crane rating is only one check. The loaded grab weight, hook dimensions, headroom, clearances and duty must match the actual crane.

Can it open above a ship hopper?

That must be verified for the selected opening mechanism and control sequence. Provide hopper dimensions and the required discharge height.

What happens if the remote signal fails?

The technical offer should state the selected unit's safe response, status indication and recovery procedure for the intended duty.

How are lead time and support handled?

The written offer confirms the selected power package, test scope, production and shipping milestones, warranty and spares.

YOUR EQUIPMENT BRIEF
