The first purchase decision is whether the building can support the crane reactions. Floor space savings do not remove the need to verify roof structure, suspension points, hook height and maintenance access.

The term “ceiling crane” covers different systems. An enclosed-track workstation crane and an underhung I-beam crane should not be priced as the same product. Start with the travel route and coverage area, then choose a system that can meet the load and duty.
02Approve the support structure before ordering
A structural engineer must assess the proposed support points using the crane supplier’s reactions and design load cases. The review covers local connections and the building load path, including the effect of multiple cranes where applicable. Existing roof steel is not automatically suitable because it looks substantial.
Provide the actual bay dimensions and obstacles to establish suspension spacing and runway position. Crane equipment, runway steel, hangers and building reinforcement need clearly assigned design responsibility. Review underhung single-girder crane configurations when the process needs a powered bridge rather than a fixed route.
If the building cannot accept the reactions economically, compare an independently supported crane. A floor-supported option may use more floor area but avoid extensive roof strengthening.
03Confirm usable hook height and travel
Measure from the finished floor to the proposed support datum. Deduct the complete runway, suspension, bridge, trolley and hoist envelope using the supplier’s drawing. Then check that the load and rigging can clear machines, stock and access routes.
Nominal span is not the usable hook coverage. End approaches and side approaches reduce the reachable area. Include maintenance clearance above and around the lifting mechanism; a crane squeezed into the roof space can be expensive to service.
Choose manual or powered movement for the travel distance, cycle frequency and positioning task. Compare the LX underhung crane and KSLX modular underhung crane against the actual duty and dimensional envelope.

Building engineering, runway and hanger steel, reinforcement, freight, tax, electrical works, access equipment, installation and commissioning require a project-specific scope.
